United Methodist Church
Nestled in the foothills of Northern California is a town called Newcastle.
Known for their Mandarins and Warm Community, resides a piece of community history.
In 1888 this beautiful church was erected by the people of this community coming together, and in doing so anchored their community.

Building of a Community
The Newcastle United Methodist Church was founded in 1888. For twelve years people had met in private homes and held "Sunday School" and Church services sometimes with a visiting pastor or one of the members leading the service, Local citizens acquired several city lots and began building a church.

A ceremony laying the corner stone was held in late 1887; the box under the cornerstone contained copies of the county deeds, a list of officers and founding members of the church, a list of contributors to the building, and other documents. The public was invited to attend the ceremony. The women formed a Ladies Aid Society and immediately planned events to raise money to help furnish the church with pews and window shades, which were needed for the large windows planned for the church. The original purpose of the Ladies Aid Society was to raise money to help their church.
